MP has praise for police in lockdown

HYNDBURN MP Sara Britcliffe has paid tribute to local police officers after meeting with them to discuss lockdown implementation.
She met with PCs Dave Render and Dave Dutton to speak with them about the current coronavirus enforcement measures.
She said: “I was thoroughly impressed how they have been dealing with those who ignored the measures and how they have been identifying local hotspots.
“We also discussed the major issues the police are facing during this lockdown period.
“They have been very responsive when I have been in touch during this pandemic and I look forward to continuing working closely together.”
Separately, Miss Britcliffe also sought assurances from Prime Minister Boris Johnson about funding for our town centres.
At Prime Minister’s Questions on May 20, she asked Mr Johnson via video link: “Can the Prime Minister assure me that Hyndburn and Haslingden will continue to be supported by potential investment in our town centres, business and transport links that we so desperately need.”
In reply the Prime Minister said: “Hyndburn and Haslingden will continue to receive funding for their towns.
“Indeed the High Streets Taskforce will be increasing that support in addition to 118km of safe new green cycleways, and thanks to the Lancashire Local Growth Fund for which I know she has also campaigned.”
The MP has also urged businesses to apply for loans from a new government growth and innovation fund, the Future Fund.
The Chancellor of the Exchequer Rishi Sunak has made an initial £250million available for the scheme.
The Future Fund allows firms to apply for a convertible loan of between £125,000 and £5m to support continued growth and innovation in sectors including technology, life sciences and the creative industries. Private investors - including venture capital funds, angel investors and those backed by regional development funds - will at least match the government investment in these companies.
