MR John Hilson passed away at home on Sunday, May 31 with his loving family by his side.

John was the much loved husband of Sheila, wonderful father of Maxine, David and Vanessa, a cherished grandfathe­r of Kate and Emily, great-grandfathe­r of Eryn and Brooke, and a much loved cousin of Audrey.

His funeral service will be held at Carleton Crematoriu­m.

Donations may be made to benefit Trinity Hospice.

EILEEN TIPLING

EILEEN Tipling passed away peacefully on

Friday, June 5, aged 95.

After leaving school Eileen worked in a bakery, then joined the WRENS and worked as a cook, which included preparing food for a Rear Admiral.

She also worked at

Rishy Crisps in Great Harwood on the twilight shift, then as a home help in Huncoat until her retirement.

Before moving to Oswaldtwis­tle, Eileen was an active member of St

Augustine’s Church in Huncoat and was the secretary of the committee for the Cubs & Scouts for many years.

In her spare time and during her retirement she loved to bake and cook for her family and friends. She also enjoyed going shopping and going away on holidays, both here in the UK and abroad.

She sadly leaves her much loved children Kevin, Gerald and Lynne, their partners Ann and Karen, her treasured grandchild­ren John-Paul, Michael, Chris, Kelly, Alisha, and Zoe and also her great-grandchild­ren Niamh, Callum, Katie and Daniel.

A private celebratio­n of life service will be held due to the current restrictio­ns.

No flowers please, but donations are welcomed for the local charity, Action For Dementia in memory of Eileen, and may be made by phone, by post, or by envelope drop off at the funeral home (Accrington or Oswaldtwis­tle).

MRS Maureen Coulson, of Dill Hall Lane, Church, Accrington, passed away at home on Sunday, May 31 aged 80.

Maureen worked as a retail assistant at Co-op, Accrington and as a school dinner assistant.

She was a member of Antley Methodist Church and enjoyed sea fishing and nature, and supported the RNLI.

She leaves husband Ken, sons Paul and Kevin, and grandsons Josh and Jack.

A funeral service will be held at Accrington Crematoriu­m, led by Angela Riding on Friday, June 12 at 3pm.

No flowers please, but donations in lieu to R.N.L.I or PDSA.

MARGARET STEPHENSON

MRS Margaret Agnes Stephenson, of West Crescent, Accrington, died on Saturday, May 30 at Pendle Brook Care Home, Oswaldtwis­tle, peacefully with her daughter by her side. She was 96.

She will be missed so very much and was loved so very much.

She leaves a daughter Sheila, son David Roberts, son-in-law Tom, and daughter-in-law Trish, five grandchild­ren Jayne, Sarah, Amy, John and Victoria, and four great-grandchild­ren, Joshua Robert, Samuel Thomas, Amelia and Morgan.

Margaret was happily married for 70 years to Bob Stephenson, who died in 2012.

She worked during World War II at Howard & Bulloughs in ammunition­s. When her husband eventually returned from his

National Service they both worked at Howard & Bulloughs, then Lupton Bros and finally Prestige, Bob as a supervisor and Margaret a clerical assistant.

Bob retired in 1985 and Margaret then worked for a short period as a dinner lady and playtime assistant at St Christophe­r’s and Accrington Girls High School (now Accrington Academy), and finally as escort taking special needs children to and from school.

Once they both retired completely they continued to enjoy their sequence dancing and travelling around

England, Scotland, Wales and Europe in their caravan. They would frequently disappear for a month at a time to Benidorm or Fuengirola in Spain to their favourite hotels in winter.

I would like to thank all staff at PALS surgery, Accrington - especially Dr Roberts who was there to talk to when we needed her and the poor GP who was told off by Margaret for having his hands in his pockets. Special thanks for Nurse Michelle Haworth who treated mum for many months and was so kind and caring. Thanks to Royal Blackburn Hospital nurses at C3, especially Lauren. Last but not least all staff at Pendle Brook Care Home, Oswaldtwis­tle for their care, compassion, understand­ing and help in the last two weeks of Margaret’s life.

The funeral service took place on Wednesday, June 10 at Accrington Crematoriu­m. Donations if desired to East Lancs Hospice.

JOYCE BLUNSTONE

RETIRED clerical secretary Mrs Joyce Blunstone, of Aysgarth Drive, Accrington, died on Friday, June 5, aged 74.

Joyce worked as a secretary for English Electric after completing her secretaria­l course at Accrington college.

She worked for many employers, including Lancashire Probation Service and Lancashire County Council.

Devoted wife of the late Geoff Blunstone, to whom she was married for 45 happy years, Joyce leaves her children Cathy and Steven, son-in-law Michael, daughter-in-law Erica, and grandchild­ren Jacob, Alanah, Alex and Amelia.

Joyce loved spending time with her family and friends, of whom she had many.

She loved sunshine holidays abroad and holidays in England. She also enjoyed her music, particular­ly sixties, along with shopping and eating out.

Thanks to East Lancs Hospice, Dr Hogg and his oncology team and Peel House Medical Centre.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, June 16 at 11.30am at Our Lady and St Michael’s Church, Longridge.

MARY LOFTUS

MRS Mary Ellen Loftus, of Sandy Lane, Accrington, passed away peacefully in the East Lancashire Hospice on Friday, June 5, aged 86.

Born in Bonniconlo­n, Co. Mayo on 4th December 1933, Mary then moved to England in 1953 and began working at Holland’s Pies before working for many years as a Home Help for Lancashire County Council until her retirement.

The dearly loved wife of the late Tom, who she married at St Anne’s RC Church, Accrington in

November 1955, she was dear mum of Patrick and Francis, and mother-inlaw of Diane. She was the much loved daughter of the late Patrick and Catherine, the dear sister of Paddy, Frank and Jack, and also a dear sister-inlaw and auntie to many nieces and nephews.

A quiet and well respected lady, Mary was an active member of St Anne’s RC Church and was often involved with church activities.

She enjoyed taking regular holidays back to Ireland to visit family and friends and she often enjoyed day trips to Southport. She also enjoyed socialisin­g with her friends and playing bingo.

The family would also like to extend their thanks to the doctors and nurses at the Royal Blackburn Hospital and the East Lancashire Hospice.

Due to the current circumstan­ces, a small family burial service will be held at Accrington Cemetery.

Family flowers only please, however donations if desired to the East Lancashire Hospice and Cancer Research c/o Hyndburn Funeral Services, Queens Road, Accrington.
