EDITH Alice Wilkinson, aged 93, formerly of Huncoat and Clayton-leMoor, died peacefully in a private care home on Monday, August 3, ‘Fortified By The Rites Of Holy Mother Church’.

The dearly beloved wife of the late Arthur, ‘re-united’, She was also the dear mum of David, Kevin and Peter, dear mother-in-law of Janet and Barbara, cherished and loving nana of Philip, Nicola, Shane, Phillip and Kirsty, loving nana Edie of Cameron, Olivia, Melissa, Phoebe, Chloe and Dylan and a loving auntie.

Edith began her nursing career as a children’s nurse and became a sister at Accrington Victoria Hospital.

Dedicated and caring, Edith had also been one of the very first female ambulance drivers.

A life-long member of St Mary’s Church, Edith sang in the choir and also cleaned the church.

She later became a dinner lady at the school. She was a lovely lady who lived by her Christian values and was a shining example to all.

When Edith became a committee member of the Hyndburn Comets Majorettes, she threw herself wholeheart­edly into this role.

She became the first aider and was firmly in charge of whitening the pumps.

Her washing line was indeed a sight to behold with red shoe laces at one end and all white pumps hanging out to dry. Edith loved to be surrounded with children and she gave them her time, patience and care.

She had also been a foster parent too.

She will be remembered for her beautiful smile and her heart of gold.
