AMUM of four boys who has a passion for ‘alternative’ children’s fashion has launched a new clothing store in Accrington.

Hollie Barnes, 34, says Feral & Funky Kids, wh ich opened on Warner Street last week, is a dream come true having previously worked at children’s clothes shop Jumping Jack’s.

Hollie, who is Accrington born and bred, said: “Around four years ago I discovered instagram and the world of #shoppingsmall and supporting small businesses. My boys have been brand reps for many small businesses, something I thoroughly enjoyed with them. I also absolutely love the creativity that these families have.

“I like to stand out and be different. And by supporting these small shops I found my boys did exactly that. I’m forever being told how great the boys look. Let’s not forget that these are not designer clothes with ridiculous price tags. Many are handmade and made o out of love.”

The style o of the cl clothes is al alternative, ra rather than tr traditional, an and suitable fo for boys and gi girls.

One of Hollie’s brands - Jokerz Get Left Behind - is an anti-bullying brand, which she says is such an important thing to highlight with children’s fashion providing the perfect vehicle.

She added: “They have been a huge hit in the past week that I’ve been open.”

Hollie, whose partner Clive runs Accrington Aerials Ltd and has sons

Dylan 17, Louie, 11, Arlo, six, and Axll, three, said the venture came completely out of blue until the end of June when the unit became available. She quickly realised it was the “perfect” place and possibly the only opportunity she would get.

“I knew immediately that I wanted to use the shop to continue supporting the shops I have for the past four years,” she said. “There are so many shops selling childrenswear sourced from China and sold at boutique prices.

“It’s my pet hate and I’m just so glad I can bring good quality clothes to the town, whilst supporting heaps of small businesses at the same time.

“I genuinely feel like I’m living my dream. I’ve had nothing but positive vibes from people calling in. The businesses on Warner Street have also been nothing but supportive.

“It’s a great shopping area and definitely needs more promoting.

“I’m happy to be bringing something new to the town. Granted it’s not the ideal time with the Covid situation, but if I can start a business during the pandemic and feel this positive then I think you’ve started on the perfect foundation.”
