Illegal rave is foiled by police

-

LANCASHIRE Police have foiled plans for an illegal ‘rave’ in Hyndburn.

Neighbourhood officers said the unlawful gathering was due to be held at an unnamed mill in the borough on Saturday, August 15.

A poster for the event, shared on Facebook, showed the rave was called ‘Loose Lips’ and included a variety of performers.

Police said the organiser of the event had been contacted and the rave was cancelled.

They said it would have been a ‘serious breach of Covid guidelines’ and ‘enforcement would have been the result due to the sheer recklessness of the event’.

Any failure to comply would have resulted in a £10,000 fine under new government guidelines.

A Hyndburn Police spokesperson said: “Hyndburn NPT have been made aware of the intention to hold a rave within a mill in the Hyndburn area.

“This would be a serious breach of Covid guidelines and would not only endanger the persons attending but also as a result of them attending, their immediate friends and family too.

“As such, the organiser of the said event has been contacted and the event cancelled.

“Failure to do so could have resulted in a £10,000 fine under new Government guidelines and fines for all those attending for breach of Covid regulations.

“Our aim is to engage, explain, encourage and only if necessary enforce.

“However in this instance enforcement would have been the result due to the sheer recklessness of the event.

“The policing team will be continuing to monitor the situation.”
