Toddler ‘fell from car’ in road horror

She is rushed to hospital after being hit by another vehicle

ATODDLER suffered head injuries after reportedly falling from a car into the road, where she was hit by another vehicle.

The 20-month-old girl is now in hospital after the horrific incident which happened at around 3pm on Saturday, August 29 at the junction of Eastgate and the exit to Eastgate Retail Park in Accrington.

Lancashire Police said following enquiries, officers believe the little girl fell from the rear door of a yellow Toyota Prius and onto the road before being involved in a collision with a maroon Peugeot. Two men, who are believed to be the driver and passenger in the Toyota, have been arrested on suspicion of drug-driving.

The horrific incident happened at around 3pm on Saturday, August 29 in Accrington.

Emergency services were called to the junction of Eastgate and the exit to Eastgate Retail Park where they found a 20-monthold girl with head injuries.

She was treated at the scene before being taken to Manchester Children’s Hospital where medics were assessing the seriousnes­s of her injuries.

Lancashire Police said following inquiries, officers believe the little girl fell from the rear door of a yellow Toyota Prius and onto the road before being involved in a collision with a maroon Peugeot.

Two men, believed to be the driver and passenger in the Toyota, have been arrested on suspicion of drug-driving.

They are aged 32 and 29, and both from the Accrington area, police said.

The driver of the Peugeot, a woman in her 50s, was not injured and was not arrested.

Detectives are now appealing for witnesses to come forward.

Det Insp Paul Langley, of Lancashire Police, said: “We are appealing for any witnesses following a road traffic accent in Accrington.

“A 20-month-old girl is believed to have fallen from inside a yellow Toyota Prius into the road before being involved in a collision vehicle.

“The girl is currently receiving medical treatment to establish the seriousnes­s of the injuries.

“We would appeal for any witnesses who may have seen what happened or who have dash cam footage of the incident. Furthermor­e, if you saw the yellow Prius in the car with another park before the collision, please get in touch.”

In an update on Tuesday, police confirmed that two men, from Accrington, have now been released from custody under investigat­ion.
