-

A RESIDENT claims a neighbourhood is “living in fear” after a man was attacked on their street.

Police confirmed a man in his 50s was assaulted with a rock on Richmond Street, Accrington, on Saturday afternoon, August 29.

A neighbour, who did not wish to be identified, claimed the victim was targeted after confronting youths about drugs being bought and sold in the area.

They said: “The individual confronted [a] trio of youths who had been causing a nuisance.

“[Dealing] has made the neighbourhood worse than the Bronx. Children are unable to play in the streets.”

The witness also claimed residents had previously warned the police about the activity, adding: “I as well as many of my neighbours, have already filed complaints with the police.

“We have written to them via email and letter as well as called them, however nothing was done.

“Now a fellow neighbour has been attacked.

The neighbourhood is living in fear on our own street.”

Lancashire Police did not respond to the claims about drugs activity on the street.
