POLICE seized a staggering £22,000 worth of drugs, as well as cash, during a dramatic week of arrests in Hyndburn.

Three separate incidents have led to the arrests of a number of men in the borough as police caught them in suspected drugs-related activity.

On September 21, police arrested a 20-year-old local man in possession of numerous deals of cocaine, cash and two mobile phones in Oswaldtwistle.

Officers then searched his address where they found and seized a further £1,000 in cash.

The following day officers spotted two males, aged 18 and 16, on Charter Street, Accrington, involved in a suspected drugs transaction.

On searching the pair, one of them was found to have a cigarette packet hidden down his trouser leg which police said contained crack cocaine and heroin. Three mobile phones and some cash were also found. Police then searched addresses linked to the men and discovered a further £500 hidden in an air freshener, as well as a large quantity of nitrous oxide canisters.

The next day, a 27-yearold local man driving on Sydney Street, Accrington, was also stopped by police as officers suspected he may be involved in the supply of drugs.

The man and his car was searched, with officers seizing £1,500 cash, three mobile phones and an estimated 50 tubs of cannabis.

A search of an address connected to the suspect also led to a “significant recovery” of cash and drugs.

A spokesperson for Hyndburn police said: “It has been a good week of activity for the East Division Targeted Crime Team in Accrington.”
