Speedy Fenlon out to make an impression

-

NEW signing Rhys Fenlon admitted it was an easy decision for him to return to the club after signing a two-year deal.

Fenlon joined Stanley’s youth set-up at under-8s level and he explained that the club’s progress over the last decade made it an easy decision for him to return.

“It’s a great opportunity that I’ve been offered, obviously I’ve had some history with the club and seeing it progress these past 10 years meant that it was a no-brainer for me,” he told the club’s official website.

After leaving the Reds, Fenlon spent four years with Manchester City before signing a scholarship with Burnley in July 2018.

“I was released through not being physical enough, that was before Pep Guardiola came in,” he said.

“I just wanted to play football so I moved on and Burnley seemed pretty interested in giving me a contract, so I took it there. I’ve got a lot of pace that I can bring into the team and I’m very good technically. There’s a lot of potential there, I’m just trying to break through and show the fans what I can do.”

Fenlon is relishing the chance to play men’s football and he is fully aware that there’s a lot more stake than in Under-23s football.

“Under-23s football is development football, and first team football is people with jobs on the line and there’s a lot more at stake.

“I want to get into that environment and compete and win, and take this club further.

“I’ve gelled in with the squad well, they’re all open to a chat and everyone seems quite tight. I think I’m one of them players that likes an arm around the shoulder and I’ve got players around me that can do that, I think that’s what is going to get the best out of me.”
