Yobs cut police tape at crash

-

OFFICERS have slammed bystanders who cut police tape at the scene of a serious crash in Accrington.

Police and paramedics were called to the collision on Blackburn Road on Friday night, October 2.

The road was closed by the junction of Lister Street to allow paramedics to treat a casualty who had been injured.

However, officers at Hyndburn Police say bystanders “caused problems” at the scene which could have interfered with their investigation.

Hyndburn Police posted on Facebook at around 11.30pm:

“Officers and paramedics are currently at scene of a serious injury collision on Blackburn Road, Accrington.

“The road is currently closed by the junction of Lister Street to allow paramedics to treat the casualty who has suffered injuries.

“Disappointingly some of the locals have caused problems by cutting the police tape and gathering in large groups in and around the scene which officers are trying to protect to allow for an investigation.

“There are Covid breaches with the groups gathering in more than 6 and the issues caused are taking officers away from dealing with a serious collision.

“I’m sure if it was one of their family members injured they would want paramedics to treat them and officers to thoroughly investigate the collision.”

In an update on Wednesday, Lancashire Police said a male pedestrian’s injuries were ‘not serious’, and he has since been discharged from hospital.
