HYNDBURN UNIQUE LADIES
THE Ladies joined their Blackburn with Darwen counterparts on a joint video call to help raise much needed funds for two local charities.
Like most charities, East Lancashire Hospice and Lancashire’s Women’s Centres have struggled during Covid-19, which has seriously impacted their services and fundraising efforts.
The networking groups have been supporting each other during lockdown with free to attend Zoom meetings and were keen to help the charities.
So, Dawn Roberts, who leads the groups, decided to hold one of the meetings with all ticket sales going to the two local organisations.
Dawn said: “I was delighted with the total £500 raised from the online network.
“That’s £250 each for East Lancashire Hospice and Lancashire’s
Women’s Centres.
“I am overwhelmed by the generosity of the ladies who joined us - we even had some donations from ladies who couldn’t attend. A huge thank you to everyone who contributed.”
Dawn said Unique Ladies is ideal for any self-employed female who has never networked before.
She added: “We can build your confidence. You will make new friends. We can help you grow your business. If you have never been to a Unique Ladies meeting before, please get in touch for a free ticket.”
CHURCH AND OSWALDTWISTLE ROTARY CLUB
ROTARIANS from Church and Oswaldtwistle, together with some friends, spent three days litter picking around the town recently. Stonebridge Lane and Melbourne Street, together with Tinker Brook, Harvey Street and the West End playground were some of the areas covered.
The members collected a total of 51 bags of rubbish and other items which included a bike, a scooter, wire fencing, a tree stump and a cricket bat.
President Cath Heap said: “Because of the lockdown restrictions, we are tending to concentrate on our community programme.
“Whilst adhering to the guidelines, we had to come up with something that would benefit our surroundings. So, we decide to do a litter pick.
“Whilst out picking up the rubbish, we were approached by some people who urged us to try and convey the message about disposing of their rubbish correctly.”
Many thanks go to Hyndburn Council for the loan of some equipment, and also for the prompt collection of the bags, and thanks to the Friends of Rotary who turned up to help.
