Striker and ‘keeper topping Coley’s wishlist

-

JOHN Coleman is hoping to take advantage of the extended transfer window opening to bring in new additions to his Stanley squad.

Premier League and EFL clubs can still do business up until 5pm on October 16, and Coley is confident he can land up to three players before the deadline.

“I’m still hoping to bring in a goalkeeper and perhaps one or two others, which might indicate that we have a top heavy squad, but we haven’t,” he said. “We have a lot of kids and we do have a 23s side, so everytime we sign a player people think they are going into the first-team squad, but a lot of the recent signings we have made, the likes of Tom Scully, they are ones for the future in the 23s squad and we don’t really count them.

“So we’ll have good competition for places. I’d like to bring another experienced striker in before the end of the window and obviously I need to bring a goalkeeper in and possibly one other.”

Coleman completed a loan deal for Chelsea midfielder Jon Russell last week, the youngster coming on as a sub against Wimbledon at the weekend.

Coleman said: “Jon is a good player, we knew his pedigree from Chelsea and he’s someone who has been on our radar for a while. We have Tariq here as well learning what men’s football is all about and he worked ever so hard on Saturday.

“They are all game and they are all really nice lads and you are fortunate if you can get that as a blend, there are no cliques, they are all getting on with each other. I’m sure there will be ups and downs throughout the season but they are enjoyable to work with and they are taking on board what we are trying to coach into them.”
