‘Made in Chelsea’ Reds bring in Baxter

-

JOHN Coleman made it a hat-trick of Chelsea loan signings when he landed young Blues goalkeeper Nathan Baxter.

The Reds boss had made no secret of the fact he was in the market for another stopper to challenge Toby Savin and the 21-year-old joined the Reds on a season-long loan from Stamford Bridge.

While Baxter’s arrival comes after that of Tariq Uwakwe and Jon Russell, the deal to bring him to the Wham Stadium has been in place for a while.

“It’s taken a while to do because of the circumstances at Chelsea but I’ve got to thank the manager for holding on for me and waiting, it’s a club that ticks all the boxes for me and I’m delighted to be here,” Baxter told the club’s official website.

“I’ve watched all the games on the stream when we haven’t had a game at Chelsea, it’s a team that plays football which is a massive tick in the box for me.

“An experienced manager and a wellrenowned goalkeeper coach (Tony Warner), they’re all the things I look for when I want to take a loan.”

Baxter has enjoyed previous loan spells at Woking and Yeovil Town among others, and said he likes to feel part of the club he’s playing for.

“I’m someone that gives their all for the shirt, I always say when I go on loan that I’m now an Accrington player, I don’t see myself as a Chelsea player,” he said.

“I like to buy into the football club and I think all the supporters that have seen me over the years will agree with that.

“I’ve been supporter’s player of the year at a couple of teams and I think that’s because they know that I’m giving my all for the shirt and I’m wearing my heart on my sleeves.

“I’ll do everything I can day in, day out to make sure we have a successful season.”

While he has never featured in League One before, Baxter has made more than 100 first team appearances in his various loan spells, and reckons that will stand him in good stead during his time at the Wham Stadium.

“This is my sixth (loan) now and they’ve all been pretty much a year long, so hopefully I’ll bring the different experiences that I’ve learned on each of my loans and try and help the team.

“I’ve played a lot of games for my age which is obviously a positive, I know it’s quite a young side but it’s important I have a positivity about me to try and influence the team in a really good way.”
