STANLEY SHIRT OF HONOUR

-

FULL credit must be given to Stanley owner Andy Holt for the generous gift of a goodie bag and 1,200 replica shirts to Year 3 pupils at 40 Hyndburn primary schools as featured in the Observer (November 13, and p12-13).

An annual initiative admirably supported by the club’s sponsors ‘Studio & Sundown’ and local businesses.

These actions amply demonstrate the ethos of the club and its

Community Trust, whose aim is to support young people, encouraging their involvement in sport and education, and reinforced the fact that Stanley at heart is a family club. The Reds are currently experiencing difficult times with the absence of supporters, playing staff depleted and confined to the sidelines due to a coronavirus outbreak resulting in the postponement of matches and further loss of revenue.

In this unique situation it was even more commendable for the club to personally deliver the items to the schools and involve cricketing legend and true Accringtonian David Lloyd, which increased the profile of the club in the national media.

My late father-in-law Jack Hudson, a former chairman of the club, would have been immensely proud. My grandson received a shirt and was highly delighted.

We must not lose sight of the fact these children are the next generation of supporters and who knows my grandson may be one of them.

In these depressing lockdown days this really was a good news story.
