Legion takes pride in business honour

-

CHURCH and Oswaldtwistle Branch Royal British Legion were delighted to receive the Pride of Hyndburn Award from Hyndburn Business Awards on Tuesday, November 17.

The award recognises the hard work branch members have undertaken in encouraging young people to take an interest in their community and to create understanding of the meaning of remembrance and the sacrifices made by both past and current serving military personnel and their families.

The branch supports a number of local youth organisations who belong to the Royal British Legion Affiliated Youth Groups. These affiliated groups range from local schools to cadets and other uniformed organisations such as girl guiding and scouts.

Each year these groups help raise much needed funds for the national Poppy Appeal.

Hilary Austin, Vice Chairman of the branch explained: “Young people are the future of any organisation and we are very lucky in Church & Oswaldtwistle to have such dedicated support from our local youth groups and the community.

“They realise that remembrance is not just for November but is relevant all year round when we continue to remember all those who make sacrifices to keep us safe and help us in many different situations.”

Due to current Covid restrictions the branch has not been able to meet since February but the committee has been trying to keep members and those interested up to date through their Facebook page @ rblchurch andoswaldtwistle

Anyone interested in becoming a member or needing information or any poppy wreaths or merchandise can contact via emailing: rblchurch andoswaldtwistle@yahoo. com or can call branch Chairman Danny Cassidy on 01254 381 211.
