AYOUTH worker boxed himself to a standstill to smash his fundraising target for a children’s hospice.

Scott Parsons, from Clayton-le-Moors, went through the pain barrier in a gruelling ‘Rounds for Pounds’ punchbag challenge in aid of Derian House.

Starting his 240-round challenge at 8.15am, he realised after 40 threeminute rounds that he was on course to finish after midnight so trimmed his allotted 45 seconds of rest between rounds to just 10 seconds.

Scott, 43, said: “I managed to complete the challenge in 13 hours 45 minutes, finishing just after 10pm. In total I threw over 47,000 punches and burned 6,400 calories! The most important element of the day was our target of £1,000 was smashed and we currently sit at £1,345.”

Scott said he could not bend his fingers the following day due to the swelling on his battered fists, after being on his feet for the equivalent of 20 full-length title fights back to back.

Derian House community fundraising manager Mick Croskery said it was a super-human effort and will be doing a presentation letter of thanks at Derian House once we come out of lockdown.

The challenge was broadcast on Facebook Live. Scott also runs the S.I.T.H.I Social Interaction Through Healthy Initiatives Facebook page - a free fitness boot camp for families to enjoy the outdoors.

Begun after first lockdown was lifted, the sessions were aimed at improving the overall health of families while bringing normality, happiness and a sense of community spirit to those who had been isolated for many months. More than 100 families got involved during the summer.
