Stanley set for date with lowly Dons

- IAN FORAN

FRESH – hopefully – from their midweek trip to Shrewsbury, Accrington Stanley host MK Dons tomorrow and – Shrews’ result pending – will be looking to extend their current unbeaten run in

League One.

MK Dons have one win in the last five matches and are sitting just outside the relegation zone.

John Coleman’s men will be looking to edge closer to the play-offs and despite playing on Wednesday, they benefited from a rest last weekend.

Out of the five meetings between the clubs, MK Dons have the better of

Accrington four wins to one loss.

Wigan Athletic will be looking to take advantage of a Sunderland team in decline. Wigan, who are rooted to the bottom of the league have only tasted a win twice so far this season.

This will be the first time the teams have met since 2013, with both teams in the Premier League. Wigan have not beaten Sunderland since 2011.

Rochdale host Lincoln City having lifted their spirits with a thumping 4-0 win at Plymouth on Tuesday.

Brian BarryMurphy’s men were winless in the last five going into that one and will need fresh impetus if they are to get anything out of Lincoln.

That said, the Imps have been very indifferent of late, which Dale will be hoping to take advantage of.

Into League Two and Salford City will be hoping to put their 3-0 FA Cup defeat behind them from last weekend, with a win over lowly Barrow.

Richie Wellens’ start to life at Salford has seen them have an up and down experience while he aims to steady the ship.

A win will further cement their position in the play-off positions.

Oldham Athletic travel to Cambridge United looking to rediscover their recent good form having lost at home to Tranmere in midweek.

Despite the blip against Rovers, Harry Kewell’s men look to have finally turned the corner and are stringing a fun of games together, buoyed by their winds in the FA Cup of late.

Bolton Wanderers, another team in great form lately, took full advantage of the majority of the leagues break last weekend to notch up a 3-0 win and move closer to the play-off places.

A win over midtable Port Vale will see them head in the right direction, and start to look like the preseason favourites they were.

Altrincham’s recent form in the National League has seen them not only climb the league but also give themselves a few games in hand of the others around them. They host Kings Lynn, who are on a winning streak themselves and currently sit in mid-table.

Neighbours

Stockport County finally get some league games under their belt following a wrath of postponements due to covid.

After last week’s FA Cup win, that saw a rusty performance, Jim Gannon will be hoping to get their rhythm back in the league with a win over Bromley.

With games in hand on the rest of the league, Stockport can start to motor upwards if they can rediscover their pre-covid form.

Finally, Curzon Ashton travels to Spennymoor Town and in need of a win.

A much anticipated up and down season by manager Steve Cunningham is taking shape.

However, they will be hoping for more wins than losses over the course fo the campaign and a win over a fellow rival will hold them in good stead.
