‘Bubble waffle’ cafe bursts onto the scene!

- JOSEPH RICHARDS

ACCRINGTON has welcomed its first ‘bubble waffle’ dessert cafe.

21 Jumpin’ Waffles opened at 126 Blackburn Road in Accrington after lockdown ended.

It is now open to the public and serves a variety of sweet and savoury dishes, with the savoury waffles having their own modern twist.

They will include ingredients such as Lamb, chicken and Quorn, with toppings such as spicy pinto and masala chickpeas.

The owners have also got creative the menu with dishes named ‘get royally served”, ‘serve me a chocolate heaven’, and ‘dish me a vegan bundle’.

Local siblings, the Khokars, aged between 19 and 23, are running the outlet and said they started the project during the first lockdown in March.

Eldest sibling Zulaikha, who’s studying a Masters in international business & strategy said the encouragement received from the local community and passers-by has kept them on track.

They said they chose the site on Blackburn Road, near the train station, to revive a run down block of shops that had been derelict for 20 years and hope their venture will bring some form of hope and joy to the community.

Middle sibling Ghanwah, who is head of creative and design, said: “Our aim is to offer a memorable experience from ordering to eating ‘the not so norm’ desserts and savoury snacks, in a welcoming and friendly atmosphere.”

Abdul-Matine, the youngest sibling, added that he hopes the menu will appeal to all ages in a bright and cosy environment.

The new venue will feature a flower wall, neon light and an ice cream display imported all the way from Greece.

As well as opening in store there is also an online order option available. Here customers can ‘create snacks’ as well as making their own versions of sundaes and milkshakes from a variety of flavours including apple pie and biscoff.
