Charles delighted with brace

- HARRY DUNNETT

STANLEY’S hero in their 2-1 victory over MK Dons Dion Charles was happy to score and help his side win three valuable points in League One.

The 25-year old striker bagged a brace, both times putting his side in the lead and his second goal was the games decisive one.

On his personal contribution, he said: “I am {delighted], It’s always nice to score and I was so close to getting the hat-trick, but I’ll still take two goals either way.”

Charles was also quick to thank Tariq Uwakwe who whipped in both the crosses for his two goals. He said: “I was talking to him all week and by for the game I was saying if you get half a chance put it in early and he’s done it twice and luckily it’s fell for me.”

The win kept

Accrington hot on the heels of the top six and the play-off spots, with two games in hand, but Charles doesn’t want the team to get ahead of themselves despite his sides impressive form.

He said: “It’s easy to get carried away but we just need to keep concentrated, take it game by game and if we can perform like that every week, it’s looking good for us.”

Whilst in some areas supporters were able to return from the 2nd of December as the nation moved back into the Tier system, Accrington wasn’t one of those sides.

However, Charles was hopeful that fans could come back soon to see the progress his side are making.

He said: “We’ve come a long way this year, everyone’s pulling together as a group and hopefully the fans can see that and we’ll see them shortly back here and hopefully we’re doing them all proud.”

There were 2000 Shrewsbury fans when they travelled there last Wednesday in the league, and Charles was glad to see fans of any capacity back. He said: “It’s great having the fans back and hopefully we can get them back here soon, it just gives you that extra will, it’s like having an extra man.”
