Cannabis plants are seized in raids
HUNDREDS of drug plants and growing equipment have been seized by police in separate raids in Accrington.
More than 500 cannabis plants were discovered by police inside a business off Blackburn Road, on Friday, January 8.
It came two days after a growing operation was found by officers inside a terraced house on Sharples Street.
Police have not said exactly where the former den was located off the busy main road, but confirmed the operation had been ‘dismantled’.
Images from the scene showed plants organised into rows with a raft of amateur electrical wiring hanging from the ceiling in a dangerous fashion.
Officers from Hyndburn South Neighbourhood Police Team executed a search warrant at the property on Sharples
Street on Wednesday afternoon, January 6.
Inside they found a total of 96 cannabis plants and associated equipment.
No arrests have been reported and the drugs have been taken away to be destroyed.
Details and pictures of the discovery were posted on the Hyndburn Police
Facebook page.
The public are being asked to keep reporting similar suspected locations if they can smell the plant nearby or spot ‘amateur electrical skills’ used to cultivate the Class B plant.
Following the second raid PCSO Stacey Freeman said: “Yet another good result for the Hyndburn Neighborhood Police Team.
“A commercial building containing over 500 cannabis plants has been dismantled on Blackburn Road, Accrington yesterday evening.
“We are aware this type of crime disrupts local communities.
“Issues reported and noted by the police include odour emanating from the plants, the amateur electrical skills often demonstrated in order to cultivate the plants and the organised criminals ultimately responsible.
