MR Keith Samuel Starkie, of Accrington, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 8, aged 83, at Springhill Care Home, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s.

Born in Spondon, Derbyshire, his family settled in Oswaldtwis­tle, where Keith was raised with his three brothers, John, Ben and the late Alan.

Upon leaving

Rhyddings High School, he became an apprentice bricklayer and worked for many local builders, before starting his own company and building many houses in the local area. He completed his National Service with the Royal Air Force military police, achieving the rank of corporal.

A lifelong country music fan, in his younger years he played football for local team Woodnook Villa. Keith was in the Accrington Masonic Lodge, but will be mostly remembered for his charity work as a member and former president of the Accrington Lions

Club.

A devoted family man and keen traveller, he enjoyed many holidays in America and more recently cruising with his long term partner Carol.

Previously married to the late Joan, he leaves their sons Quint and Paul, loving partner Carol, daughters-in-law Susanna and Anne, grandsons Maxwell and Edward, brothers John, Ben, and extended families.

Keith will be sadly missed by all of his family and friends, but remembered with deep affection. Many thanks and gratitude to the wonderful staff at Spring Hill Care Home. The funeral will take place at Accrington Crematoriu­m on Tuesday, February 23 at 1pm.

No flowers, but donations if desired to Alzheimer’s Society c/o funeral director Hyndburn Funeral Services.
