Charity walkers step out to raise £5,000

-

TWO hundred walkers took part in a charity event which raised about £5,000 for different charities and good causes.

People participated in the Hyndburn Rotary Charity Walk on May 14 which after 18 years saw a route change from the Leeds- Liverpool canal to a countryside walk embracing the coppice, which gave splendid views over Hyndburn.

Twenty-six Rotarians and friends of Rotary kindly acted as stewards along the route, giving vocal support and ensuring the walkers were directed the right way.

Many walkers said that the new route was very much enjoyed, even though a little challenging.

The main purpose of the walk is for walkers to raise money for the charity or good cause of their choice.

The 109 Loyola

Scouts,1st Oswaldtwistle St Paul’s Scouts, Police Cadets and Community Solutions, and individuals took up being sponsored.

All concerned are thanked by the Walk organisers for their involvement.

The group hope that next year registrations will be back to pre Covid.

The Walk organisers wish to thank Karen and

the Wham stadium for allowing the walk to start and finish at this famous football ground, and providing refreshments at Coley’s bar.

They say they are grateful to main corporate sponsor Howard Rigg Properties, and Scott Dawson Advertising for printing all the banners, leaflets and posters.

Hyndburn Rotary

Charity Walk has raised more than £450,000 over the past 18 years.

President Dawn said: “I wish to take this opportunity of thanking Sally and the Walk team for the amount of time they spent organising this grand event.

“Also all the people who did either the 5k or 10k walk and raised sponsorship, and of course all the Rotarians and friends of Rotary who gave up their Sunday morning to act as stewards. This was Rotary and the community at its best.”

Giovanni Di Maio has entered the Hyndburn Charity Walk for the last 15 years and during this time he has raised substantial funds through sponsorship, which has

all gone to the Anaphylaxis (UK) Society.

Giovanni has worked at Franco’s Italian restaurant on Union Road in Oswaldtwistle for the past 27 years and he is enthusiastic in his endeavour to promote Anaphylaxis which claimed the life of Franco’s daughter at such a tender age.

Franco has been a

tireless worker for Anaphylaxis (UK) and through his local Rotary club and other means, he has raised significant money all of which has gone to this organisation.

Customers at Franco’s restaurant have been very supportive for many years to the cause of helping Anaphylaxis, and this year have sponsored Giovanni for £500.
