Catwalk queen’s event to boost big fight with cancer

Veronica’s annual ladies’event raises thousands for charities

Carnbroe catwalk queen Veronica Woods styled and profiled her way to another healthy four-figure sum during her annual ladies’ fashion show and lunch in aid of two cancer charities.

More than 200 women displayed model behaviour as they dressed to the nines and handed over an impressive £5701 at the cracking clothes show in Motherwell’s Dalziel Park Hotel.

For the ninth year in a row, guests got to enjoy a chat and a cuppa before picking up bargains galore at the various stalls and taking part in prize-heavy raffles.

The superlative sum raised means even more to Veronica given her own – successful – personal battle with breast cancer.

She told the Advertiser: “The event took in £ 5701.12, which will be split equally between Breast Cancer Care and Marie Curie.

“I had breast cancer myself, as did a couple of my friends, so it is a cause close to my heart.

“I can’t believe how generous people are and it’s mostly the same women who do us proud every year.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank all who attended and businesses who donated prizes.

“We were gifted with a lovely sunny day for the occasion and everyone came along dressed up and determined to have a good time.”

However, next year’s ladies’ fashion show will be the tenth and last held by Veronica.

She has decided to pack away her make-up brush and hang up her party dresses to concentrate on her own health after a delightful decade that has seen her raise nearly £50,000 for both charities.

She said: “The event next year will be the final one, but I’m looking to go out on a high.

“I am sitting at around £48,000 for my overall total from the last nine years so it would be nice to pass the £50,000 mark.

“A lot of work goes into organising the fashion show and lunch.

“But I always enjoy it and love seeing all the money coming in to go towards two such wonderful causes.”
