Off-road collision

-

Police are appealing for witnesses after offensive graffiti was sprayed on the wall of an Airdrie shop.

A suspect was caught on CCTV running off from Whinhall licenced grocers after the Burnfoot Road store was targeted at 11.30pm last Friday night.

Inspector Louise Brownlie, of Coatbridge police, told the Advertiser: “The property was daubed with offensive graffiti and a male wearing a dark tracksuit with white stripes was captured on CCTV. Two males – one a teenager – were arrested following a collision between two cars being illegally used on open ground near Monklands Hospital.

The incident at lunchtime last Sunday saw the culprits involved require follow- up medical treatment.

The reckless pair – aged 14 and 33 – have been charged with road traffic offences and a report on the collision has been sent to the procurator fiscal.

Inspector Brownlie added: “My colleague at Airdrie police, Inspector Steven Miller, has recently highlighted the issue of off- road vehicles being used on open ground in Monklands, as well as the dangers of using these vehicles outwith a controlled environment.

“Several off-road vehicles were illegally used on open ground near Monklands Hospital during this incident and, unfortunately, two vehicles were involved in a collision.

“Two males have been charged with a contravention of the Road Traffic Act 1988 for riding the vehicles elsewhere other than a road.”
