Tenants’ group AGM

-

A group of senior pupils from a Coatbridge school enjoyed a“once in a lifetime trip”to Malawi as they met with youngsters, got up close to some exotic wildlife and went for walks“in the bush”.

Emily Bryce, Emma McBeth, Jonathan McGinty, Ben Allardyce, Amy Ward and Sophia Warren of St Andrew’s High were joined by staff members Miss Banks and Mr Cassidy for their visit to the African country.

The intrepid group were given a warm welcome from locals who treated them to some Malawian dancing, before they returned the favour with traditional Scottish dances.

The Coatbridge students delivered workshops, walked in an area surrounding Mulanje Mountain, went on a bike and boat safari and visited the Mulanje Mission Hospital.

A spokesperson for St Andrew’s High told the Advertiser:“These pupils have worked hard all year round during several fundraising initiatives prior to travelling to Malawi.

“We were all very excited to hear all about their once in a lifetime trip when they returned and it’s clear they all had a wonderful time.” The next gathering of Shawhead Tenants’ and Residents’ Association takes place tonight in Shawhead community centre at 7pm, and will be the group’s AGM.

There will be no meeting in July, with the following get- together being held at the same time and venue on Wednesday, August 31.
