Airdrie didn’t make me feel wanted enough

Davidson on why he snubbed old rivals to re-sign for Rovers

- Andrew Bargh

Ross Davidson has revealed he pulled out of contract talks with Airdrieonians to re-sign for Albion Rovers — because they made him feel wanted.

The Cliftonhill midfielder penned a oneyear deal with Rovers at the end of May but only after a short period of uncertainty surrounding his future.

And while he had discussions with Rovers’ Monlkands rivals, Davidson feels he made the right decision in staying put.

He told the Advertiser: “There was interest was from Airdrie but I’m looking forward to the new season with Albion.

“There was talk of a few other teams as well as Airdrie but I want to play for Albion.

“I spoke to their manager, Kevin McBride, a few times and he told me their plans, but it was dragging out and taking too long.

“But our manager’s interest was great. He kept in touch every couple of days, asking how I was doing and what my plans were.

“I know Airdrie have gone full-time and it would have been an opportunity, but I feel I’ve made the right decision staying here.

It may have taken until the penultimate week of the Airdrie and District Dart League season, but Carsons have been crowned the 2015/16 Champions after winning two vital clashes.

Carsons made a stuttering start against the Boars Head, but they soon clicked into gear and took the title in style with a whitewash.

Graham Anderson seized the initiave with 18 and 19 dart wins followed by Ernie Brown with a 20.

Jim McGeary claimed 17 and 19 dart victories, whilst Cameron Menzies got in on the act with a 20.

Derek Cunningham was named player of the week and he proved he’s still got it as he marked up 14 and 17 wins as the Boars had no answers.

Workmens B have consolidated second place but will reflect on their failure to get the better of Carsons throughout the season as their downfall.

With one game remaining, third place is still undecided and will be claimed by the Clansman or the Swan, despite both teams failing to register a victory this week.

The Clansman lost on their own patch to the league’s form side the Forge who travelled to Caldercruix and won the match on the last double, and now face the league champions knowing they may need to win to finish third.

The Swan only picked up one point against the lowly Wilson Arms and now have to beat the Forge on Monday to claim third place.

The Lounge edged a close encounter with Workmens C, confirming an eigth place finish after winning on the final two pairs games.

Elsewhere, the Eagle’s wings weren’t clipped by the league’s bottom side Workmens A, as they sealed a top half finish, whilst the Bank club beat the Albert bar.
