“He later appeared at Airdrie Sheriff Court from custody.”

Bogus callers warning

Airdrie police have warned residents to be on their guard against bogus callers following a spate of incidents in the town this year.

People are being urged to help monitor more vulnerable members of the community and ensure they don’t become victims of doorstep crime.

Inspector Miller told the Advertiser: “Local officers are committed to eradicating the scourge of doorstep crime and bogus callers, with a particular focus on protecting those who are vulnerable.

“Since January 1 of this year, there have been six reported incidents of such alleged activity within the Airdrie area, resulting in two crime reports being recorded.

“Within Airdrie, the number of recorded serious assaults, robberies and minor assaults, as well as disorder and antisocial behaviour, continues to fall in comparison to last year.

“Notwithstanding this welcome downward trend, if some unknown person arrives at your home unexpectedly, don’t allow them entry to your home unless you have verified their identity by telephone.

“You should also ensure your windows and doors are secure; make use of door chains and bars. If you see any suspicious activity in your community please contact us immediately.

“Any information or intelligence we receive will help to stop others becoming the victims of crime and increase the chance of identifying and prosecuting those responsible.

“Information can be given by calling Airdrie police on 101, or anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”

Traffic concerns

Police are taking “further action” in the wake of an increase in complaints relating to a notorious traffic blackspot in Petersburn.

Members of the public have inundated Airdrie police with phone calls relating to concerns over speeding and inconsiderate parking on Towers Road.

Inspector Miller said: “Sergeant Steven Murray is aware of these issues and will be undertaking action.

“Speed limits are there for a reason and show the maximum speed at which it is permitted to drive.

“However, drivers also need to drive according to the prevailing road, weather and traffic conditions.”

Police survey launched

Monklands residents are being urged to give their feedback on what type of policing is important to them – and their community – by taking part in an online survey.

The results of the ‘ Your View Counts’ public consultation will “help inform” the Annual Police Plan and Local Police Plans for 2017.

The survey is available to complete now, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, by visiting www.scotland.police.uk/ yourviewcounts
