Sinister voicemail left for ex-partner

- Court reporter

A Coatbridge man who left an abusive voicemail on his ex-partner’s phone has been admonished in court.

Colin Edgar, 35, terrified the woman by shouting, swearing and uttering a threat in the vile message, which was delivered on December 7 last year.

He admitted his guilt four days later and was then given four months to prove he could be of good behaviour.

During a previous appearance at Airdrie Sheriff Court, then-procurator fiscal Liam Haggart described the content of Edgar’s message:“It was 11pm and the terms of the voicemail were‘what you up to, you sleekit b******?’and‘you better answer the door tomorrow or I’m caving it in’.”

Edgar, from Dykeside Street, was back in the dock last Wednesday to face the music on this offence and another charge of throwing a chair at a car on May 23.

The second incident saw Edgar attend a property on Elgin Place uninvited and, after refusing to leave, shouting, swearing and acting in an aggressive manner by turning his rage on the parked car.

Sheriff Petra Collins revealed Edgar had a“very positive background report”and defence solicitor Steven Lily said his client was“paying for the damage to the vehicle”.

Sheriff Collins admonished Edgar on the voicemail charge and further deferred sentencing on the other matter until October.
