Hitman Stewart signs on at Rovers

- Colin Paterson

Darren Young reckons new boy Ross Stewart can be a smash hit at Albion Rovers.

The big striker put pen to paper on Monday evening after a nominal fee was agreed with Kilwinning Rangers.

Stewart was expected to make his debut last night for Rovers in the Betfred Cup at Berwick Rangers.

And player/manager Young feels he will be a great addition to his side’s forward line.

He said:“We’re really pleased to get Ross on board and we think he is someone who will do well for us.

“He needs to get himself stronger but we will work on that and he has looked good in training.

“Ross gives us a different option and will give us a physical presence in attack.”

Rovers have boosted their options up front after being caught short in the second half of last season.

But one new signing, former Dunfermline Athletic star Ryan Wallace, has already been sidelined with an ankle injury.

Young has vowed not to take chances with the 25-year-old as he wants him fit for the start of the League One campaign at

East Fife on Saturday, August 6.

He said:“Ryan will make a big difference when he comes into the team and we will make sure he is right before playing him.”

Rovers are idle this weekend but return to Betfred Cup duty next Tuesday night at home to Clyde.

Young has reserved judgement on the new-look League Cup until the initial group stage is complete.

He added:“The competition is something different and we will need to see how it pans out.”
