Volunteer Paula holds a charity night fundraiser

An Airdrie woman with learning disabilities has helped to raise funds for the charity who support her.

Kind-hearted Paula Gallagher, 42, raised more than £500 by hosting a charity night in St Margaret’s church hall, Airdrie, in aid of the Cornerstone charity.

Paula, who is assisted by the charity’s Wellwynd Drive social care team with her shopping and daily chores, has been volunteering with the charity for almost two decades and wanted to give something back.

And she was delighted with the response from around 60 of her close family and friends who attended the disco and took part in the tombola and raffle, raising £550 for the cause.

Paula told the Advertiser: “Someone from the charity comes round to help me with my shopping every day and I couldn’t do it without their support.

“I’d like to thank everyone who came along to my charity night and all those who helped out beforehand to make it such a successful event.”

Barbara Boertien, Cornerstone’s fundraising manager, said: “Paula has been a tireless fundraiser for us for many years and her efforts are really appreciated and in recognition of her work, Paula won Fundraiser of the Year at Cornerstone’s West of Scotland Star Awards in 2015. She also works as part of the local TASK group, which does great work including a lot of fundraising.”
