Drink-driver warned over court reports

- Court reporter

A Moodiesburn motorist who got behind the wheel while more than five times over the drink- drive limit has been warned he faces jail if he doesn’t comply with court background reports.

Foolish David Cocker, 39, was pulled over by police on Gartferry Road, also in Moodiesburn, and found to have 267 milligrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood, the limit being 50 milligrammes.

He also drove without insurance and a valid driver’s licence during his dangerous journey on January 23.

Cocker, of Bridgeburn Place, admitted his guilt at Airdrie Sheriff Court and sentence was deferred until last Wednesday for social work background reports.

However, Cocker ’ s defence solicitor highlighted that reports weren’t available as attempts to contact his client by letter and phone were made to an incorrect address and telephone number.

The lawyer added: “He did make contact with the social work department yesterday.

“He is not a man who shirks from contact with the social work department.

“I would ask Your Lordship to allow further time to compile the reports.”

Sheriff Frank Pieri was unimpressed with Cocker’s compliance and warned him: “It is very easy for the court to get reports; you just get kept in custody for three weeks.

“On this occasion, though, I will give you another opportunity and defer sentencing for the reports previously called for.”

Cocker’s return to court was then set for August 24.
