Thug fined after festive frenzy Spent time in the cells after assault on police officer

-

A Kirkwood thug ensured a very unhappy Christmas for his ex-partner during a festive frenzy that ended with him assaulting a cop.

Boozed- up Jamie Paterson subjected the terrified female victim was subjected to mouthfuls of horrendous verbal abuse – including threats to stab and kill her.

Paterson, 25, then pushed a police officer on the chest and grabbed his body armour before being led away to spend the rest of last year’s Christmas Day in the cells.

His despicable behaviour took place at a property on Newbattle Avenue in Calderbank and he admitted his guilt on January 19.

Paterson, from Allan Street, was back to face the music at Airdrie Sheriff Court last week after being given seven months to prove he could be of good behaviour.

Procurator fiscal Yolande Love told the court: “The accused and complainer had been in a relationship for a period of two years. Shortly before the incident, the parties had separated, but still remained in contact.

“It was Christmas Day and both parties had consumed alcohol. The accused began becoming aggressive and called the witness ‘a f****** b****’, ‘a f****** slut’ and ‘a prostitute’. He later threatened to kill and stab her.

“The witness contacted her sister and asked her to call the police. At 11.55pm, police attended and detained the accused.

“He became aggressive and pushed the officer on the chest and grabbed his body armour.

“He was arrested and restrained before being taken to Coatbridge police office.”

Defence solicitor Paul Belardo then spoke on his client’s behalf: “He is a first offender. This is an encouraging report.

“He realises the impact he had on his former partner and the police constable.

“It was Christmas Day and he had too much to drink and it all starts from there.

“The pair still maintain contact and the complainer has accepted his apologies. This seems to be an isolated incident.”

Sheriff Derek O’Carroll chose to hit Paterson in the pocket, telling him: “This was appalling language to use, especially on Christmas Day, which you then made worse by assaulting a police officer.

“I can fine you just now, only as you spent three days in custody [after the offence]; rest assured, if you hadn’t you would be facing a very different outcome.

“I will fine you £400.”
