Remanded for reports

Love, 20, goes behind bars

- Court reporter

A man who twice breached court bail conditions – on the same day – will spend the next two weeks behind bars after he failed to comply with efforts to compile reports into his background.

Liam Love, from Glenboig, was remanded in custody for his brazen behaviour after Sheriff Derek O’Carroll tired of his excuses for defying court procedures.

The 20- year- old began his day of woe on July 23 by breaching bail conditions by entering a property on Coll Drive, in the Old Monkland area of Coatbridge, to approach and communicate with a woman.

Just a short time later, Love then defied another location ban by entering Kirk Street, also in Coatbridge, against the orders of the court.

Love, from Sherwood Road, admitted both bail breaches two days later, when sentence was deferred at Airdrie Sheriff Court for background social work reports.

During Love’s return to the dock last week, his defence solicitor, Paul Belardo, told the court : “There are no reports available.

“He accepts he received an appointment letter on a day which he’d committed to work.

“He tried to contact the social work department without success.

“I have made it crystal clear what powers the court could have in these circumstances, which gave him the fright of his life.”

Love was right to be scared as a visibly unimpressed Sheriff Derek O’Carroll then told him: “We need these reports and you knew we needed them.

“You failed to attend two separate [social work] appointments and have a record of not complying with [court] orders.

“You have shown you cannot be trusted.

“So, you will be remanded in custody and come back in three weeks and we’ll see what the reports have to say then.”
