Boozed-up mum lashed out at cops

Vicious assault sees officers punched and bitten

-

A crazed woman punched, scratched, bit and spat on cops during a manic attack, a court heard last week.

Boozed-up Michelle Lever, 25, was arrested in a car park near Coatbridge Main Street on April 9 and then directed her rage at two constables.

The violent mum- of- two punched one of the cops on the head, scratched him on the face and spat on his leg.

Her frenzied assault continued when she bit the other cop on the thigh, causing him to “cry out in pain”.

Lever, whose address was given as Ness Street in Wishaw, admitted her reprehensible behaviour and was back at Airdrie Sheriff Court last week to face the music following a deferral for background reports.

Procurator fiscal Yolande Love told the court: “It was 1.25am and police were contacted in relation to an intoxicated female; the accused.

“On speaking to her, they found her to be aggressive. She was arrested and police tried to place her in the back of a police vehicle. She then punched the officer on the left side of his face and lashed out, scratching him on the face.“She was taken to Coatbridge police office and when she was being taken inside, she spat on the officer, with it landing on his leg.

“In order to apply a spit hood, the accused’s hand was removed from handcuffs and she turned and bit the other officer on the thigh, causing him to cry out in pain.

“The accused wasn’t cautioned and charged due to her intoxicated state.”

Mitigating on Lever’s behalf, defence solicitor Steven Lilly said: “Her record appears to be fouryears-old. She has been able to secure employment and starts properly working next week.

“Her behaviour was not acceptable. She had quite a lot to drink and had earlier told staff at a pub her bag was missing; they didn’t take her seriously and she became irate.

“This descended into the chaotic, disrespectful behaviour described.

“She is prepared to do unpaid work in the community and has no other cases outstanding.”

Sheriff Petra Collins told Lever: “I will make a community payback order with supervision for a period of 15 months and 120 hours’ unpaid work.

“I will allow nine months for you to do this due to your work commitments and have reduced it from 160 hours due to your plea.

“This is a direct alternative to custody. If you breach the order you can expect a custodial sentence.”
