The news that legendary pop icon Elton John is bringing his spectacular show to Airdrie’s Excelsior Stadium next summer met with an outpouring of joy, excitement and disbelief from the Advertiser’s Facebook readers.
Ross Paton said: “Will be an experience. Don’t often get to walk to an Elton John gig from my house!”
It sounds like Frances Mallon Hannah is a fan of the superstar: “That is a show I would love to see.”
Elizabeth Kemp is planning to celebrate a special occasion at the gig: “That’s my birthday sorted for next year.”
Jim Gillespie joked: “Lol; he will be playing the Coatbridge Indoor Bowling Club next...”
Nikki McLelland Innes has sampled the great man in musical action: “Went to see him in Edinburgh in June this year and he was brilliant.”
Tara Tuite Waters posted: “Cannot wait, gonna be brilliant!”
Lesley Bowen will be one of thousands singing along in the crowd: “Ticketmaster pre-sale. Got mine this morning!”
Also encouraging dozens of comments from the Advertiser’s Facebook readers was our story on Coatbridge Cenotaph being targeted by heartless vandals.
They callously daubed the war memorial in the town’s Langloan area with disgusting pro-IRA graffiti.
Siobhan Traynor hit out at those responsible: “I completely despise and condemn this sort of vandalism and the utter disrespect shown for our fallen heroes.
“Men from all walks of life fought for our freedom, including my great-grandfather.”
Andrea Bateson added: “This is disgraceful!”
John Harvey said: “I just can’t figure out why they would do this, after all a cenotaph is for all of the fallen, regardless of faith, colour or creed.”
Kelly Jamieson posted: “Sickening and shameful! Clearly full of hatred.”
