Burns elated over bout in Scotland Coatbridge fighter set for clash with Relikh

- Colin Paterson

Ricky Burns says he is delighted to be fighting in Scotland again.

The nation’s first- ever threeweight world champion returns to the ring on Friday, October 7, for a clash with Belarus’s Kiryl Relikh.

Burns, 33, defeated Italian Michele Di Rocco at Glasgow’s SSE Hydro in May.

And he wants to notch up another win when Relikh comes to town.

The Coatbridge fighter said: “Preparations have been going well and we’re now coming into the final two hard weeks.

“I was so happy to get the win in my last fight and hopefully I’ll be able to keep the momentum going by producing the goods.

“I’m looking forward to it and I’m confident of being able to come through.

“I’m just glad to be back fighting regularly in Scotland. The response from the public has been really good and it should be a cracking night.”

Relikh is being promoted by former world champ Ricky ‘ The Hitman’ Hatton.

And he was full of praise for Burns at a press conference on Monday in Glasgow’s Marriott Hotel.

He said: “I can’t speak any more highly of Ricky for what he has done for Scottish boxing and the type of person that he is. I love the passion of the fans in Scotland. We’re looking forward to the fight.”
