Darren Young wants Albion Rovers to rediscover last season’s form in Saturday’s Monklands derby.

The Cliftonhill men have made an indifferent start to the campaign and recorded a solitary League One win.

However, Rovers know they could leapfrog arch- rivals Airdrieonians if they triumph at New Broomfield.

And they will travel with confidence having not lost at the stadium in five previous visits.

Player/ manager Young said: “This is a game that gets you excited and the players and fans are up for it.

“We feel that the boys are capable of showing

Kevin McBride insists the form book will go out the window on derby day.

Airdrieonians welcome neighbours Albion Rovers in the first Monklands showdown of the season.

Both sides have made patchy starts to the new League One campaign.

But head coach McBride reckons the derby will be in a league of its own.

He said: “We know it is going to be difficult and we are still a very young side.

“All form goes out the window when it comes to a derby. It’s about who wants it the most on the day.

“It’s massive for the players and the fans want the bragging

improvement and that we have a good squad.

“We have a good record at their place. We drew the two derbies there last season and beat them in the Challenge Cup in my first game as Rovers boss.

“We also beat Queen’s Park twice when they were using the stadium for a while. Hopefully that run continues. I don’t think we got the results we deserved in the derbies last season.”

Meanwhile, Young was yesterday quoted at 16/1 by McBookie.com to replace Alex Rae as St Mirren manager.

Rae was sacked by the Buddies on Sunday evening.
