Kevin McBride admits he felt a huge sense of relief after Airdrieonians returned to winning ways.

The Diamonds head coach heaped praise on his players who inflicted a 2-1 defeat on League One title hopefuls Alloa Athletic.

Airdrie now head into this weekend’s international break with renewed confidence.

And McBride reckons the shock derby-day defeat to Albion Rovers acted as a wake-up call for his players.

“It’s strange as the defeat to Rovers was probably the wee kick up the backside we needed going into the Alloa game.

“The main thing for me was to get a reaction – and to go to the team at the top of the league and get three points is a massive boost for the boys.

“Going forward, I feel we’ve got the players to always cause teams problems.

“We sat in and allowed Alloa to have a lot of the ball knowing that we could hit them on the counter attack.”

Airdrie have reaffirmed McBride’s position as the man in charge of the football department. The former
