Popular Led Zeppelin tribute band are back

- Ross Thomson

Fans of legendary rockers Led Zeppelin will experience a whole different side to the band’s songs in Motherwell later this month.

Tribute act The Led Zeppelin Story first came on the scene in 2004, playing to appreciative audiences throughout the UK and Europe, whether it was the full on thunder of the electric set, or the more laid back and intimate acoustic sets. Now band members Jack Nimmo and Alex Pow are embarking on an ‘unledded’ two piece electro-acoustic venture. And in true Jimmy Page and Robert Plant style, nothing is off limits! Jack, from Cambusnethan, said: “We’ve really changed things up and this will be very much an “unplugged” style gig.

“We’ve brought cello players and adding the string section has really brought a new side to the songs.

“Our first gig of the new tour was in Oran Mor in Glasgow and it went down an absolute storm. We were really pleased with it.

“We just felt it was time for a change and to do something different.

“We had been playing the same songs in the same way so this has really invigorated us.”

The introduction of the string section with celloists Callum Ingram, Rufus Huggins and the backing vocals of Emma Whyte has breathed new life into some of Zeppelin’s most iconic tracks.

And Jack believes fans of the band will revel in the new sound.

He added: “The guys are really contemporary celloists.

“Callum has played all over the world and has a lot of experience.

“A lot of Led Zep songs can be broken down and played in this way.

“Back in the early years for example Robert Plant played in a folk band so they do lend themselves to being stripped down in this way.” Jack says he is enjoying every minute of his rock ‘n’ roll lifestyle and added: “We were all in different bands when we met for the first time.

“It just so happened that we were all playing in Dublin at the same time and fate, it seems, brought us together.

“It all happened so quickly — although I think the Guinness sped up proceedings a little
