The Coatbridge men lost 48-18 to the Blacks who are eight points behind leaders Cambuslang in the BT West Division Two table.

W/D are second bottom, having lost four of their opening five matches and sit eighth in the standings.

There are now only nine teams in the division after McLaren withdrew.

Cumbernauld are propping up the rest, one point adrift of W/D.

Stewartry opened the scoring with a converted try but W/D also touched down in the 15th minute although couldn’t add the extras.

Both sides exchanges penalties to make the score 10-8 before Stewartry extended their lead with a try.

And the Blacks crossed the whitewash again in the 34th minute as they took advantage of a W/D yellow card.

An eight-man drive got the ball over the line with the conversion kicked.

Leading 22-8, Stewartry were very much in the driving seat. But there was still time for two more tries to be scored before the interval.

A late offload saw the Blacks touch down behind the posts with the conversion added.

Shortly afterwards, a break up the right wing proved productive with a try the end result. No conversion this time and Stewartry led 34-8.

It was damage limitation for W/D who fell further behind within five minutes of the restart as Stewartry scored a converted try.

The men from Castle Douglas then made it 41-8 before W/D notched up a bonus point with two unconverted tries which were consolation efforts.

Meanwhile, the 2nd XV were in action against Paisley at Coatbridge’s St Andrew’s High School in BT West Reserve League Division Two.

Paisley scored three quick tries, two of which were converted, but Chris McGuigan’s unconverted effort made it 19-5 at the break.

The visitors stepped it up again in the second half to lead 31-5 before W/D enjoyed a final flourish.

Ian Hunter touched down in the corner after a quick tap penalty from Gordon Anderson was fed to McGuigan who found the winger with a long pass.

Five minutes later, Anderson scored under the posts before McGuigan converted although Paisley had the last word with a converted try on the final play of the game.

This weekend sees W/ D 1st XV at home to Millbrae. The 2nds are scheduled to face Shawlands.
