Plea for partner’s return

- Andrew Bargh

The worried-sick partner of a Coatbridge man who has been missing for over a week has pleaded with her boyfriend to come home.

Sean McKenna was last seen during the early hours of October 10, when he left a friend’s house.

Police are appealing for information on Sean’s whereabouts and his girlfriend, Lisa Coyle, told the Advertiser: “I would give anything to have Sean home where he belongs.”

The distraught girlfriend of missing Coatbridge man, Sean McKenna, this week said her “heart is breaking” as the search for her partner continues.

Lisa Coyle’s boyfriend was last seen in the early hours of Monday, October 10, when he left a friend’s house on Derwent Drive in Townhead.

Sean’s parents, James and Lorraine McKenna, received a text message from their son at around 5am saying he loved them.

He also sent a message to Lisa around the same time.

But police have confirmed the 24-year-old, of Teviot Street, hasn’t used his phone since.

The community have rallied round Sean’s increasingly worried family, with scores of residents taking part in searches for the popular missing man.

And, with more than a week having passed since the former St Ambrose pupil’s last correspondence with any family or friends, girlfriend Lisa has urged Sean to get in touch, and admitted the wait is “devastating”.

The 25-year-old, who has been in a relationship with Sean for two- and- a- half years, told the Advertiser: “My heart is breaking.

“I would give anything to have Sean home where he belongs.

“Not knowing where he is is devastating.

“Please come home Sean. Please phone someone just so we know you’re safe if you’re not ready to come home yet.”

Townhead residents have been placing candles in their windows and have created the social media hashtag #GuideSeanHome to raise awareness of his disappearance.

Lisa is warmed by the response of the public and says people have been “on the go non-stop” to try and find her missing loved one, who works for a whisky firm in Glasgow.

She said: “The whole community has been great and everyone has come together like a big family.

“There have been two search parties going out almost every day looking for him.

“People really have been on the go non-stop trying to find him.

“We’ve put posters up all over Coatbridge and the surrounding areas and have been doing doorto-door inquiries all over the town.

“I would like to thank everyone for their help and support of Sean’s family and friends.”

Sean’s anxious father, James, added: “We are still searching, that’s all we can do.

“We will pray and hope he returns safe and that he’s not in trouble.

“I would ask anyone with information about where Sean may be to contact officers at Coatbridge police office.

“I would also appeal to Sean himself to get in touch as his family is very upset and worried that he has been away and out of touch for so long.”

When Sean was last seen he is thought to have been wearing black tracksuit bottoms with a dark jumper.

He stands at 6ft 2ins tall and is of medium build with a tanned complexion.

Chief Inspector Gavin Russell said: “Sean is well known in the community and and I would like to thank everyone who is assisting the investigation into Se a n ’s disappearence and the support they have offered my officers.

I would like to reassure them that we are utilising all appropriate resources available to us to find Sean and would encourage anyone with information which could assist the investigation to contact Coatbridge police office by calling 101.”
