Kids to dance at gig with Bieber

- Ian Bunting

It was a case of Never Say Never for a fabulous foursome of young stars from a Coatbridge dance school who have been hand-picked to perform alongside pop icon Justin Bieber. Katie McKenzie, eight, Lynette Brown, 10, Regan Reston, 11, and Ross Wilkins, 12, of MAD Studios, will show plenty of Purpose as they keep the Canadian singer Company on stage at his sold-out gig in Glasgow’s SSE Hydro tomorrow night. The quartet are the pride of their dance teacher, Michelle Allan, and family and friends after catching the eye of Justin’s choreography team in video clips sent to them.

Four young performers from a Coatbridge dance school have reason to “beliebe” that anything is possible after they were chosen to join pop superstar Justin Bieber on stage at his sell-out Scottish gig tomorrow night.

The skilled youngsters, all members of Mad Studios, caught the eye of the Canadian musical icon’s choreography team after sending video clips to his management.

Katie McKenzie, eight, from Coatbridge, and Lynette Brown, 10, of Airdrie, will perform alongside colleagues Regan Reston, 11, and Ross Wilkins, 12, both from Glasgow, in front of 13,000 screaming fans of the Sorry singer.

They were handpicked from hundreds to dance to the track Children alongside the 22-year-old musician on the opening night of his three-date stint at Glasgow’s SSE Hydro.

There’s sure to be plenty of beauty and beats on display when the excited quartet lap up their once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to perform with one of the world’s biggest pop stars – with preparations well underway for their routine.

Michelle Allan, the proud owner of Mad Studios – which is based in Coatbridge town centre – told the Advertiser: “I edited and uploaded the video clips of Katie, Lynette, Regan and Ross’ performances and was absolutely delighted to get the news they had been chosen to perform alongside Justin.

“The kids and their parents were ecstatic too and this is a very big deal for them.

“They are all fans of Justin and his music and it will be a dream come true for them to dance at his gig.

“Katie, Lynette, Regan and Ross are all in our eight-to-12 age group and with the exception of Ross, who joined the school quite recently, they are all long-term members.

“They’re all amazing and this experience will be with them for the rest of their lives; they just keep going from strength to strength.

“It’s great news for Mad Studios too and it will be nice to see the four kids perform outwith a competition setting and have a blast dancing with one of their musical idols.”

Ross’s delighted mum Kelli said: “He’s only 12 and dance just oozes out of him. He loves hip hop and street dance.

“Ross was on cloud nine when he was chosen to perform and it’s just great that the four chosen are all from the same dance group. It’s an amazing achievement for them.

“They will all get to perform and shout their name out to the crowd, which is just amazing.”
