Drink-driver six times limit

-

A dangerous motorist from Plains who got behind the wheel while nearly six times over the legal drink-drive limit has been banned from the road for the next three years.

Christopher Dearie was found with 131 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of his breath when he drove through Station Road – in his home village – on September 18; the legal limit being 22 microgrammes.

Livingston Place resident Dearie, 57, admitted his reckless actions and, after a deferral for reports into his background, was back to face the music at Airdrie Sheriff Court last week.

Defence solicitor James Sloan, mitigating on his client’s behalf, said: “He is a person at a low ebb.

“If Your Ladyship wishes to deal with this today by way of a community payback order with unpaid work, I wouldn’t seek to dissuade you.

“The vehicle was worth approximately £500.”

Passing sentence, Sheriff Petra Collins told Dearie: “I will make a community payback order with supervision for a period of 18 months and 101 hours of unpaid work, which I have reduced from 150 due to your plea, and will be completed within six months.

“This is a direct alternative to custody, so if you breach the order and are brought back before me, then you can expect a custodial sentence.

“You have got a record, so I will disqualify you from driving for a period of three years. I will also grant the motion for forfeiture of the vehicle.”

Abusive tirade

A Glenmavis woman who behaved in a threatening and abusive manner at her own home has been placed under supervision.

Lisa Marie Dickson, 33, repeatedly shouted, acted aggressively and threw items around the Rydenmains Road property on January 19.

She pleaded guilty at Airdrie Sheriff Court and returned for sentencing last Wednesday following the compilation of reports into her background.

Procurator fiscal Susan Campbell told the court: “At 6.40pm, the accused’s former partner attended and saw her in an agitated and aggressive state. He tried to calm her down but was unable, so contacted the police.

“The next door neighbour made her way to the property and the accused began throwing items about the kitchen and left via the back door.”

Defence solicitor Gary Morton spoke on Dickson’s behalf: “She accepts full responsibility. There had been tension in the home for a sustained period and things came to a head and she lost her temper.

“There is a record here, but there has been a period of stability for the last six years. There is a willingness to engage here.”

Sheriff Petra Collins then addressed Dickson directly: “In the circumstances, I will impose a community payback order with supervision for a period of 18 months.”

Racist yob in dock

A further deferral has been ordered on a yob who racially abused a terrified female post office employee.

Charles Hunter, 41, shouted and swore at the staff member of Rawyards Post Office, placing her in a state of fear and alarm.

His heinous behaviour at the Black Street facility took place on September 11 and Hunter entered a guilty plea at Airdrie Sheriff Court a short time later.

Background reports on Hunter, from Bishopbriggs, were then ordered and he returned to the dock last week for sentencing.

Hunter appeared from custody relating to another matter and his defence solicitor, Gary Morton, revealed that the reports were unavailable.

Sheriff Petra Collins told Hunter she was continuing his case until November 16 to await the outcome of the other matter and the reports previously called for.

Sold illegal Sky

A brazen Whinhall trader who offered to sell customers illegal shortcuts to view Sky television channels for free has been fined.

Christine Montgomery, under her Internet Traders business name, offered a decoder designed to provide unpaid access to an encrypted broadcast by the network from her Arran Drive home on January 6 last year.

She was then caught in the act of her illegal dealings by selling the same type of device to a Trading Standards officer from her house two months later.

Montgomery, 56, admitted her foolish conduct at Airdrie Sheriff Court and resurfaced in the dock last week for sentencing after social work reports into her background.

Sheriff Petra Collins told Montgomery: “In the circumstances, I will deal with this with a fine of £150.”

Admonished

A sheriff has admonished a foulmouthed Coatbridge woman for her threatening and abusive behaviour.

Stacy Lee Currie shouted, swore and uttered a threat at a property on Langloan Street, also in Coatbridge, on March 7 last year.

The 24- year- old pleaded guilty at Airdrie Sheriff Court back in April this year and sentence was deferred for six months to allow Currie the chance to keep out of trouble.

During the Dundyvan Road resident’s return to the dock last week, procurator fiscal Susan Campbell revealed that Currie had behaved herself during the period of deferral.

Sheriff Petra Collins then admonished Currie.
