Buckfast’s £20k is cancer boost

The Lanarkshir­e Macmillan Community Nurse Team are toasting a bumper £20,000 donation from Buckfast.

They were delighted to accept the donation from the firm’s sales manager Stewart Wilson.

It now means that J Chandler & Co (Buckfast) Ltd have handed £95,000 to Macmillan’s Lanarkshir­e branch over the last four years, to help people affected by cancer.

Angela McCormack, area fundraisin­g manager for Macmillan, said: “On behalf of Macmillan Cancer Support, I would like to sincerely thank J Chandler & Co (Buckfast) Ltd for making the very generous donation of £20,000 to the charity.

“The money will be used to provide much-needed financial support for Lanarkshir­e cancer patients. It will help to pay for travel to and from hospital for treatment, heating bills, clothing, washing machines and other household items.”

In 2015, Macmillan paid out over £ 300,000 in grants to people affected by cancer in Lanarkshir­e, who struggled financiall­y because of the illness.

Mr Wilson visited the Macmillan team to hand over the bumper cheque.

He said: “We at J Chandler & Co ( Buckfast) Ltd are delighted to be able to make a donation to Macmillan Cancer Support for the fourth consecutiv­e year.

“The whole team at Macmillan Cancer Support do an excellent job within communitie­s right across the UK. We would like to applaud the hard work carried out by everyone at Macmillan.

“We understand our donation of £20,000 will be put towards grants for people who require it most within Lanarkshir­e.”
