Readers respond to terrifying car-jacking and new multi-million pound link road
Concerned Advertiser Facebook readers responded to the story of a terrified woman being robbed as she waited at a set of traffic lights in Coatbridge with some safety suggestions.
The terrifying car-jacking saw the 39-yearold victim targeted by an object-wielding man on Whifflet Street, with the despicable culprit stealing a number of personal items and a sum of money.
Gayle Isabella Cargill said: “Always lock your car as soon as you get in it, any time of the day or night!”
Stacy McInally added: “Make sure you lock the doors when at the traffic lights!”
Elaine Lawrie commented: “Scary. I never lock the doors, but will start now.”
But Lesley Calder warned: “You should only lock your car doors occasionally when driving as it makes it extremely difficult for the emergency services to release you from a locked car in the event of an accident.”
Moving on to other matters from last week, a new link road between Gartcosh Business Park and Glenboig was formally signed off as part of a wider £1.13 billion deal.
The new road, which was given the green light by the Glasgow city region City Deal’s cabinet, will cost £6.6 million and had been approved during the summer.
But despite claims the area is set to reap the rewards of the heavy investment – which will facilitate the delivery of up to 3300 new homes over the next 20 years – local residents sound unconvinced by the development.
Glenboig man Rab McLean posted: “Disgusting, they are about to ruin one of the best villages in Scotland.”
Ronnie Docherty said: “Sounds like a lot of money for a road less than a couple of miles.”
Jamie Miller added: “Fear this will result in much unwelcome change in Glenboig.”
Helen Tyson was more in favour of the road: “Great news. Just what the area needs. Promising times!”
