Beheading threat woman remanded

-

A woman who threatened to chop an Airdrie councillor’s head off will remain behind bars.

H ollie Cannon, of Thrashbush, admitted phoning Airdrie North representative Sophia Coyle and leaving a vile message that was later heard by Ms Coyle’s petrified teenage daughter on October 3.

During the graphic message, which was played as a recording to the Advertiser the day after the offence, Cannon could be heard issuing frightening statements to Ms Coyle which included threats to chop her head off as well as accusing her of having an affair with another local politician.

Cannon, 30, from Cheviot Court, was taken into custody on October 4 and admitted her actions at Airdrie Sheriff Court the following day.

Shaken mum- of- three Councillor Coyle, 40, later told the Advertiser she and her family remained fearful for their safety.

Cannon was back in court last week, from custody, following a deferral for a background report.

Defence solicitor Steven Lilly said she had missed the opportunity for reports due to her repeat offending and that if Cannon did not cooperate in future “she could be in prison for a lengthy time”.

Sheriff Petra Collins said: “She can stay where she is as she put herself in this situation. I will continue for the reports and you will remain in custody.”

She ordered Cannon to return to court on November 23, when she will also be sentenced for two incidents where she threatened cops.

Cannon shouted, swore, made violent threats and behaved in an aggressive manner at her home on September 5 and October 18.

She pleaded guilty to both charges.
