Glenboig funding
Residents in Glenboig have developed a fiveyear action plan for their area, including distributing funds from the Coalfields regeneration trust.
The organisation has shared £20,000 among local groups for projects ranging from goalposts to gardens.
Following the recent action plan launch, Glenboig Neighbourhood House (GNH) representative Teresa Aitken said: “Some of the bigger projects will have a significant impact on the life of the village.
“One of our key objectives is getting a centre that suits the needs of the community.
“The Neighbourhood House is no longer fit for purpose, and we need to expand the community centre so that it can provide things like leisure facilities, act as a social hub and have space for families to take part in activities.
“I was absolutely delighted that so many in the community contributed ideas and enthusiasm to the action plan; it contains something for everyone.”
Grants from the Trust include £2600 to Glenboig Neighbourhood House for a community garden, while the village park community play area benefits from £2700 for a forest kindergarten trail and assistants and £2400 for a “festivities planning group”.
Sums of £2000 each have been awarded to Glenboig Primary for its audio-visual club and to Glenboig United FC for new goals; while almost £3000 is earmarked to run men’s, older people’s and parent and toddler groups.
Attendees at the action plan launch were treated to a photography display by young members of Glenboig Primary’s photography club, with PTA member John Godfrey reporting that since receiving its initial funding, the club has generated income through fundraising and sales of the youngsters’ work.
Coalfields regeneration trust representative Nicky Wilson said: “The action plan will make a huge difference to Glenboig.”
