Charity mascot project
A talented trio from New College Lanarkshire created a buzz for Beatson Cancer Charity by launching their mascot.
Coatbridge campus student Jade Young and NQ art and design coursemates Amy Foy and Lynsay Stirling helped with a crucial stage of creating new mascot Bella Beatson.
They took the bumblebee design from a primary schools art competition and transformed it into a working graphic design, which was then passed to a costume maker.
A charity spokesperson said: “The students were fantastic and became part of Bella’s journey. Creating the graphic design turned into a project for them and was a very important part of the process.”
Jade and NQ student of the year Lynsay are each now working towards HNC art and design at the college.
Beatson cancer charity supports patients receiving treatment at facilities including the Lanarkshire Beatson radiotherapy centre at Monklands Hospital.
Now schools in Monklands are being encouraged to book a visit from Bella Beatson.
The charity’s Amy Dreszler said: “We encourage all schools to get in touch. Bella Beatson’s visit will help boost our profile and engage with local communities and it’s our way of saying a huge thank you for the generosity we receive.”
Schools can contact the charity by emailing amy. dreszler@ beatsoncancercharity.org or calling 0141 212 0505.
