Rovers make their point at title hopefuls

- Colin Paterson

Alloa Athletic.....0 Albion Rovers.... 0 Darren Young was satisfied to see Albion Rovers make their point — but reckons they could have snatched all three.

The Coatbridge men put up the shutters at the Indodrill Stadium to frustrate League One title hopefuls Alloa Athletic.

Young’s side defended well and created chances of their own as they responded positively to last weekend’s disappointing 1-0 defeat to Peterhead.

And the player/manager reckons they could have made it a day to remember with a little more ruthlessness in front of goal.

“We were delighted to get a point,”he said.“I thought that defensively we were brilliant. We are looking pretty solid.

“The boys are actually a bit gutted that we never managed to nick it at the end.

“Most of their chances came from either set-pieces or crosses but we worked really hard and had a late chance to score.

“The performance was similar to the one we produced at Livingston and we’re pleased to have taken four points from six against the two title favourites.”

Young also praised midfielder Connor Shields who made his full debut — with on-loan Hamilton Accies star Steven Boyd missing the trip to The Recs with a hip problem.

He added:“Connor came into the team and he did really well.

“We thought his power and pace would cause Alloa some problems and that’s what happened.” ALBION ROVERS: R M Stewart; Reid, R Dunlop, M Dunlop, McBride; Shields, Ferry (Turnbull 77), Davidson, Willis (McCann 85); Wallace, R C Stewart (Fisher 59).
