Bank Social Club weekly entertainm­ent includes dancing to live music on Mondays and Thursdays, a bingo night on Tuesdays with a £500 prize and a cabaret with top acts, backed by Kenny Campbell, on Saturdays. Wednesdays sees line dancing held and on Sundays there is dancing to The Reasons. A Christmas party night takes place on Friday, December 16, with live entertainm­ent from Pipe Dream. Plains

Plains Senior Residents Club warmly invites other senior residents to come and join. Visitors can enjoy a healthy meal and a chat, or just a plate of soup or cup of tea, along with the occasional day trip. The club operates every Monday from noon except for school holidays, and transport is available for disabled people. Community council will meet at 7pm on Tuesday, November 8, in the community centre. The group has issued an apology to anyone who didn’t receive a leaflet on the Monklands A&E situation; they can be picked up from the pharmacy or Smartways on Main Street.

Scouts meetings 1st Clyde Scouts’ weekly meetings take place on Wednesdays at the St David’s and Plains primary schools’ campus. Beavers for six to eight-year-olds meet from 6.15pm to 7.15pm and Cubs for ages eight to 10 from 7.30pm to 8.30pm. The cost for both meetings is £2.50 and youngsters attending are asked to take soft shoes and a drink. The evening gospel meeting is held at 6.30pm every Sunday, except the last Sunday of the month when the service runs from 3.30pm to 4.30pm. A prayer and Bible reading is also held every Wednesday from 7.30pm to 9pm.

Da Capo music group The group’s flute orchestra will be performing alongside the Queen Elizabeth Accordion Band at Glasgow Evangelica­l Church’s festival of remembranc­e on Sunday at 6.30pm. They will supply music to enrich the commemorat­ion of the Battle of the Somme. Anyone interested in learning the flute or drums is welcome to attend the group’s band practice on Mondays at the congregati­onal church hall on Broomknoll Street from 6pm. Team funds Greengairs United Football Club was delighted to receive a “considerab­le” donation of funds from three of the team’s young players. Katie, seven, Adam, 10, and Ben, 11, raised £411 from an organised collection at Lloyds Banking Group’s office. The club is proud of the youngsters’ initiative and commitment. Fireworks display The Bonfire Night celebratio­n takes place on Saturday, behind the social club, with the fire being lit at 7pm and kids and parents welcome. Ladies from the children’s committee will be serving soup, hot dogs, toffee apples and refreshmen­ts. During the display, parents are asked not to let their children inside the barriers.

Children’s committee The Christmas pantomime, Dick Whittingto­n, and Christmas party will be held in the social club on Saturday, December 17, and Monday, December 19, respective­ly. Forms for both are available from the committee or bar staff and should be returned on or before Wednesday, November 30. More details are available on the social club notice board. Reformatio­n service was held in the Orange Hall, on Baillies Lane, last Sunday. It was delivered by Reverend Ray Williamson, grand lodge chaplain, and the Baillies Lane Flute Band supplied the music. Marching band Baillies Lane Flute Band practice sessions take place on Tuesdays in the social club from 7pm to 9pm. The group will also welcome new members to attend learner classes on Sundays from 2pm to 4pm. The band are currently in need of experience­d drummers.

Green project Parent Action for Safe Play’s Growing Greener Project sees environmen­tal officer David Payne working in Coatbridge to help residents reduce energy bills and waste and provide means to grow their own food. Group invite Coatbridge Baptist Church’s Parent and Toddlers Group is recruiting new parents and toddlers from the area to join its fun and friendly group.
